While it’s still calling its opening a “soft launch” as San Diego Eater reported last week, North Parkers and others flocked to the city’s newest beer tasting room this weekend to check out what this local brewer has to offer.
Like counterparts Belching Beaver, Thorn Street Brewery and other neighborhood beer destinations, Modern Times’ North Park outpost serves crafts on tap in different sizes, equipped for tasting.
[The brewer has added this location to its existing Old Town mainstay, which it has coined the “Lomaland Fermentorium.”]
Unlike its counterparts, there’s a little more atmosphere here: upside down lampshades adorn the ceiling, while old school floppy discs deck the walls and also serve as handy coasters.
This spot also has an outdoor patio perfect for seeing and being seen from the growing number of food and drink locals on the intersection of Upas and 30th.
That’s useful, too, for ample take out options. While Modern Times welcomes food, it doesn’t cook its own on site.
